Muertes de Tránsito en Illinois en Aumento

Muertes de Tránsito El Chicago Sun-Times informa que las muertes de tráfico aumentaron un 9% más que por la misma época hace un año. En lo que va de este año en Illinois se han registrado 533 víctimas mortales de tráfico en las calles, caminos y carreteras de Illinois. De ellos, 156 murieron en accidentes relacionados con el alcohol. En 143 de los accidentes mortales, el cinturón de seguridad no fue usado. En 110 de los accidentes mortales, los conductores involucrados estaban sin una licencia de conducir válida o no portaban licencia.

Según el Secretario del Departamento de Transporte de Illinois Ann Schneider: "conducir distraído está jugando un papel". Schneider señala que a pesar de los intentos de hacer consciente al público de los peligros de conducir distraído, alrededor del 10 por ciento de las muertes de tránsito del estado están ligadas a la conducción distraída, enviar mensajes de texto mientras se conduce.

Para disminuir las muertes de motociclistas, la policía del estado de Illinois ha anunciado la Operación “Rogue Rider” cuyo objetivo son los motociclistas temerarios en las carreteras, y pide a los automovilistas llamar a la policía si ve conductores de motocicleta imprudentes.
